Obituary

Virgil Henry Bragg, Jr., 64, West Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at St. Catherine-North, Fargo, surrounded by his family.

Virgil “Hank” was born October 16, 1958, in Tampa, FL, the son of Virgil Bragg, Sr., and Mary Lucille (Oliver) Bragg. He grew up, attended Tampa Hillsborough High and graduated in 1977. While in high school, he loved singing with the high school award-winning vocal group, “Sound System.” He also earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

He joined the United States Air Force in 1978 and trained to be an Air Traffic Control Officer. He earned his Associates Degree in Applied Science from the Community College of the Air Force. While serving, he was stationed at MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL, Eglin AFB, Valparaiso, FL, Thule AFB, Greenland, Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS, and Minot AFB, Minot, ND. Virgil retired from the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1999.

Virgil married Cathy Warren in 1979. From their union, they were blessed with Tara, Jennifer, and Nathan.

After his retirement, Virgil worked as a civilian contractor as an IT person at the Minot AFB. He also continued his education at Minot State University and earned his bachelor’s degree in 2007. During this time, he met and married Kathleen Fulwiler on July 7, 2001, in Minot, ND. They made their home in Minot and Velva, until Virgil had the opportunity to be an IT Specialist with the USDA and moved to La Junta, CO. They spent six years there, then moved to Victoria, TX in 2017. Due to health reasons, they moved back to North Dakota in 2018 to be closer to family and medical care.

Throughout the years, Virgil and Kate enjoyed spending time with their dart league teammates throwing darts, playing softball on their respective teams, numerous motorcycle trips to Sturgis and various places, camping with friends and family sitting around the fire drinking beers, and especially watching Virgil’s beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With his love of riding motorcycle, he joined the Legion Riders which is a military motorcycle group in La Junta. He was a talented singer, who often could be over heard humming or singing along with the radio. He enjoyed mostly Elton John and playing his air piano of “Benny and the Jets.” Virgil greatly enjoyed singing with his daughters whenever the opportunity arose. Mostly, Virgil was very passionate about anything he set his mind to.

Virgil was preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kate Bragg, sisters Mary Louise Bragg and Martha Leah Bragg-Speller, children; Tara (Jeremy) Mork, Jennifer (Robert) Arden, Nathan Bragg, Shannon (Ernest) Tipton, Lauren (Devin) Hillebrand, Vaughn (Shauna) Hoffman, and by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held later in the summer of 2023.
