Bent County Sheriff Weekly Incident Report 2/18-2/24, 2023

2/18/2023

Deputies responded to the 300 block of 6th Street for the report of a traffic crash. Deputies took a report.

Deputies responded to Highway 194 and CR 10 on a report of theft. Deputies found this to be a civil issue. 

Deputies responded to the area of Bent County and Prowers County line for a report of a traffic accident. Deputies were unable to locate the traffic accident.

Deputies responded to the 500 block of Elm Ave on a report of a vehicle blocking. Deputies found a U-Haul truck stuck in the mud. Deputies contacted U-Haul and they sent out a tow truck to pull it free.

Deputies responded to the 1000 block of 4th St on a report of a theft. Deputies are still investigating. 

Deputies responded to Highway 50 and milepost 390 on a report of a dangerous driver. Deputies found the license plate to be valid. 

Deputies responded to 8th Street for the report of a reckless driver. Deputies were unable to locate the driver.

Deputies responded to East 5th Street for the report of an animal call. Deputies determined that it was a civil issue.

2/19/2023

Deputies responded to the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue for the report of an agency assist. Deputies assisted the other agency.

Deputies responded to the 800 block of 3rd street for a fire alarm. Deputies arrived on scene and determined it was a false alarm. 

Deputies responded to Highway 50 and mile marker 394 for a call of livestock on the highway. Deputies arrived on scene and the cattle were returned to their field. 

Deputies responded to the 30,000 block of County road 15 for a call of domestic violence. Deputies arrived on scene and determined everything was okay.

Deputies responded to the 500 block of Vine avenue for an ambulance call. Deputies arrived on scene and assisted medical staff. The patient was loaded onto the ambulance and transported to the hospital. 

Deputies responded to the 700 block of Popular Avenue in Las Animas for the report of medical assistance. The party left before medical and deputies arrived.

Deputies responded to the 1000 block of Elm Avenue in Las Animas for the report of 911 misdial. Deputies were able to locate the phone and determined everything was okay.

Deputies responded to the 700 block of 4th street in Las Animas for the report of suspicious activity. Deputies were unable to locate any activity.

2/20/2023

Deputies responded to Highway 50 and Mile Marker 411 for the report of a truck versus deer. Deputies assisted the Colorado State Patrol with the investigation.

Deputies responded to the 1200 block of 6th street for an ambulance call. Deputies arrived on scene and assisted the medical staff. 

Deputies responded to the 300 block of Maple avenue for a burglary call. Deputies arrived on scene and determined no crime had been committed. 

Deputies responded to the 1300 block of 9th street for a call of burglary. Deputies arrived on scene and determined no crime had been committed. 

Deputies responded to the 1200 block of 9th street for an ambulance call. Deputies arrived on scene and assisted medical staff. The patient was loaded onto the ambulance and transported to the hospital. 

Deputies responded to the Lane 19 Boat Ramp for a possible distress call. Deputies determined everything was okay and there was no emergency situation.

Deputies responded to the 900 block of Vine Avenue in Las Animas for the report of an assault in progress. Deputies investigated the matter and took one individual into custody. The individual was transported to the Bent County Jail.

Deputies responded to the 900 block of Lois Avenue for a report of a cold burglary. The reporting individual did not know if any items had been taken at this time. The property was added to the watch list, and the reporting individual will advise deputies if there are any missing items.

Deputies responded to the 700 block of Locust Avenue for a report of a dog that had entered a backyard by unknown means. The dog was removed and taken to the pound without incident.

Deputies responded to the 900 block of 5th Street for medical assistance and assisted loading the patient. 

2/21/2023

Deputies responded to the 600 block of Grove avenue for a family disturbance. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke to all involved parties. Deputies determined everything was okay. 

Deputies responded to Highway 194 and County road 8 for a call of livestock on the highway. Deputies arrived on scene and the livestock were fenced into the field. 

Deputies responded to the 100 block of east 4th street for a civil call. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke to all involved parties and advised them that this was a civil matter. 

Deputies responded to the 30,000 block of Oak street for a domestic violence call. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke to the reporting party. The party advised they had a verbal argument and would leave the house for the night. 

Deputies responded to the 1500 block of west 6th street for a burglar alarm. Deputies arrived on scene and determined it was a false alarm and everything was okay.

Deputies were patrolling the 600 block of 11th st when a stray dog was identified. Deputies attempted to put the dog back in the yard.

Deputies responded to the 600 block of 5th street for a welfare check. Deputies discovered a deceased party and the Bent County Coroner was notified. 

Deputies were patrolling the 900 block of Carson Ave when he saw a German shepherd at large and attempted to catch it. The dog ran to his home where the homeowner apologised and took control of the dog. 

Deputies were advised of an individual at Fort Lyon that was asked to leave. The individual left prior to deputies responding. 

Deputies responded to the 500 block of Popular for a missing child. The child was found and returned to their parents.

Deputies were patrolling the 1000th block when a dog at large was located. The dog ran to his home where the homeowner captured the dog safely and without incident. 

Deputies were advised of a brush fire near County Road 16 and County Road BB. The Las Animas Fire Department advised that deputies were not needed in the area. LAFD was able to extinguish the fire. 

Deputies responded to the 1800 block of Ambassador Thompson Blvd. for a call of dogs fighting in a home. Deputies arrived on scene and saw the dogs in the living room. Deputies entered the home and were able to catch the dogs. They were transported to the dog pound. 

2/22/2023

Deputies responded to the 300 block of 4th Street for an ambulance assist.

Deputies received information that a male party had entered a residence at the 900 block of Grand Avenue with an active warrant. Deputies located the male and took him into custody. 

Deputies were requested to assist another agency by retrieving property from the 30,000 block of County Road 15. Deputies retrieved the property, and it was placed into evidence. 

Deputies responded to the 500 block of Popular for a burglar alarm. Deputies found no entry point and that all doors were locked.  

Deputies responded to the 300 block of Popular for a burglar alarm. Deputies entered the building and found everything to be okay. 

2/23/2023

Deputies responded to the area of Hwy 50 and County Road 6.5 for an animal attack. Deputies spoke with the reporting party and are investigating.

Deputies responded to the 300 block of Carson Street for a report of harassment. After investigation, deputies determined that it was not a case of harassment. 

Deputies responded to a burglary alarm at the 500 block of Poplar Ave. Deputies determined it was a false alarm.

Deputies were contacted regarding a theft at the 400 block of Bent Ave. Deputies were advised that the reporting party did not wish to pursue charges.

Deputies responded to the 300 block of Bent Ave on a report of a vehicle lockout. Deputies unlocked the vehicle without incident. 

2/24/2023

Deputies responded to the 900 block of Ash Ave on a report of a dog running at large. Deputies issued the party a warning. 

Deputies responded to the 100 block of 6th St. on a report of a panic alarm. Deputies found this to be a false alarm.

Deputies responded to the 30,000 block of CR 10 on a report of a 911 misdial. Deputies found this to be an accidental misdial.

Deputies responded to the 800 block of west 2nd St for an ambulance assist. Deputies assisted ambulance personnel.

Deputies responded to the intersection of 9th Street and Carson Avenue for the report of a structure fire. Deputies assisted with traffic control.

Deputies responded to the 300 block of Locust Avenue for the report of a stolen vehicle. After further investigation, deputies determined that the issue was civil.
