Colorado State Patrol Report: Fatal Crash on US Hwy 50 on St. Patrick's Day
Description: The Colorado State Patrol released the following report regarding a fatal car crash that occurred west of Fowler on US Hwy 50 on March 17, 2023.
Colorado State Patrol: Fatal Crash on US Hwy 50
The Colorado State Patrol released the following crash report on a sedan/semi collision that occurred on March 17th at 6:09 PM on US Hwy 50 near mile post 348 in Pueblo County.
Vehicle 1: Hyundai Elantra driven by single occupant, male, 34 of Rocky Ford, seat belt was used.
Vehicle 2: Peterbuilt 389 Semi with Trailer, 41 year old male, of Illinois, sustained no injuries, seatbelt was used.
Vehicle 1, a Hyundai Elantra sedan, was traveling westbound near mile post 348. Vehicle 2, a Peterbuilt Semi and attached trailer, was travelling eastbound near mile post 348 on US Hwy 50.
Vehicle 1 traveled left onto the rumble strips dividing traffic before over correcting and traveling over to the right shoulder then the driver over corrected again to the left into the eastbound lane of traffic striking its front end with the rear axel of the trailer of vehicle 2.
Vehicle 1 came to rest facing northeast on its wheels and vehicle 2 and it's trailer travelled forward before coming to rest facing east in between the eastbound lane and the shoulder on it's wheels. The driver of vehicle 1 was transported by flight for life for medical care in Pueblo, Colorado and was pronounced dead at the hospital by the doctor.
No alcohol or drugs were suspected to be a factor, excessive speed was not a factor. The accident is still under investigation, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
