Prowers County Wildfire Update from Prowers County Commissioners 

This afternoon Prowers County Rural Fire responded to a fire east of Lamar near County Road 19.

The fire grew quickly due to the dry and windy conditions and Rural Fire called for aid from multiple fire departments in the region as well as Prowers County Road and Bridge.

This multi-agency team worked all afternoon and as of this release they have cut a path around the fire and contained it to the area around the Arkansas River bottom.

They do not believe any structures have been lost or are currently threatened if conditions hold. Power is out in some parts of Prowers County from the loss of power poles, and crews are working to make those repairs as soon as they can safely do so.

We want to thank Prowers County Rural Fire, Prowers County Road and Bridge, and all of the regional agencies who swiftly responded to this fire in such poor weather conditions. We hope to provide more updates from Prowers County Rural Fire Chief Staffon Warn as possible.
