SWINK HIGH SCHOOL DUI SIMULATION

On April 13, 2023 members from Otero County Sheriff's Office, La Junta Rural Fire and Ambulance, Colorado State Patrol, UC Health Life Line as well as other community partners, will be hosting a Mock DUI Drama for high school students in Swink.

The DUI drama is reality-based with a primary focus on high school-aged drivers. The drama will begin with members of local law enforcement discussing the hazards of distracted driving, impaired driving, and the importance of properly wearing safety belts. The drama will continue with a portrayal of a crash scene.

The crash scene will consist of a simulated crashed vehicle, and actors, who will be played by Swink students portraying injured students, fire department personnel operating equipment, CSP members demonstrating crash investigation and arrest procedures, ambulance personnel treating the injured actors, and a UC Health Lifeline helicopter landing.

Students will have an opportunity to ask questions of emergency personnel at the conclusion of the drama.

The ultimate goal of this DUI drama is to save lives through education and reality-based learning.

We will have trained counselors available during and after the simulation for students who may need support. Parents may choose to opt out of this activity for their child and an alternate activity will be provided. Please call the school and let the office know if you will be OPTING OUT of this activity.
