"It was brought to our attention today that there was an incident at the junior high track meet in Walsenburg involving an altercation between two individuals, one of which displayed a fire arm during this altercation. Due to the quick actions of our junior high track coaches and our parents that attended this event, our students were accounted for and followed all safety procedures from the announcers booth while waiting for the individual(s) to be apprehended. The individual(s) were apprehended quickly and our students boarded the bus immediately to return home. While we are aware that the community wants all details as soon as possible, please know our top priority is the safety of our staff and students, which is what we focus on first, before notifying the community of the entirety of any situation. We wanted all families to know their children were safe and accounted for above all else. CCSD wants to personally thank our junior high track coaches, our Charger families, and all first responders in the Walsenburg area that show up day after day for things like this."
