Matthew Miller Named Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Otero College

LA JUNTA — On the heels of an amazing season that ended with a Region 9 championship win and a trip to the national tournament, the Otero College Men’s Soccer team will welcome a new head coach, Matthew Miller.

Coming to Otero College from Webber International University in Babson Park, Fla., Miller has several years of experience in playing and coaching soccer. He has been named to several all-conference teams, was the youngest captain in Fisher College soccer history, was in the top ten in the nation for assists in 2014 and currently holds the second all-time number of assists at Fisher College. Miller was also captain for the South Bend Football Club semi-pro summer soccer team in 2017. He has coached at Boynton Knights Soccer Club in Boynton Beach, Fla., Fisher College in Boston, Mass., Trine University in Angola, Ind., Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, Ore., and Webber International University in Babson Park, Fla.

A strong supporter of academics, Coach Miller obtained a bachelor's degree in communications from Fisher College in 2018. He has had success in recruiting, helping build a great culture, and trying to give the student athletes the best college experience. He is passionate about his work and enjoys making meaningful connections with others, especially if he can help them on a new pathway towards their education and success.

Coach Miller shared, “The beauty of soccer is that it is a worldwide sport and brings everyone together. All the schools that I have worked at have been in small towns and it has helped make each experience have a family feeling to the group. I have worked with players from all over the world, different cultures, and players that are first generation college students. I am dedicated to help each individual reach their goals and bring them success.”

According to Chris Carrillo, Athletic Director, “Coach Miller has a tremendous passion for not only for the coaching profession but has a greater passion for assisting student athletes in reaching their goals. We are extremely excited for the future of Otero Soccer and under the guidance of Coach Miller we feel we can create even more success within our soccer program on and off the pitch. We are coming off a tremendous season this past fall as our men’s soccer program won another Region 9 championship. Coach Miller is very eager to build on that moment and continue to elevate our men’s soccer program to new heights.”
