Obituary

Donald Richard Sinks, 76, of La Junta, was born on March 9, 1947 in Raton, New Mexico. Don left this earthly life and earned his angel wings on May 10, 2023.

In his younger years, Don earned the BSA honor of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow. He served proudly in the National Guard, and was an avid supporter of POWs.

Don spent his working career as an automotive technician for several automotive shops in La Junta, Pueblo, and Colorado Springs. Don was never one to sit still or stay inside. If he wasn’t working you could find him out riding his motorcycle, beside a lake or stream pulling fish after fish out of the water, or on the hunt for the next big game kill. During winter or after dark, you could find him somewhere dancing, shooting pool, or throwing darts. He loved to be around people that had the same love for life that he did. He was the first person to volunteer to help if he saw someone in need.

For the past 2 summers, he was just starting his 3rd, he was a campground host for America Land and Leisure. The campground he was assigned to was Camp Dick in Boulder County. This was truly his happy place. He shared many wildlife pictures all winter long, and stories of his wonderful experiences, just waiting for May, to get back up there.

Don is survived by four(4) sons: John (Kristy) Sinks, Pueblo; James (JC) Sinks, Rocky Ford; Eric Sinks, Pueblo; and Shaun Sinks, California. 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Three (3) sisters: Sheri (Buddy) Spradley, ; ; Shirley (Jack) Martinez, CA; Ann (Bert) Lopkoff, La Junta; Aunt & Uncle, Dorothy & Davis Vigil, Denver; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Don was proceeded in death most recently by his mother, Irene Sinks, along with his wife and dancing partner, Dianne Sinks, his father, Gilbert O Sinks, two(2) sisters, Gildene Sinks, and Udonna Henville, and both maternal and paternal grandparents, John and Mary Ann Scott, and Abe and Anna Mae Sinks.

It was Don’s wish to be cremated and set free in God’s great out of doors. A gathering will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to your favorite breast cancer foundation.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
