BOGGSVILLE ANNOUNCES RETURN OF CEMETERY TOUR MAY 26, 2023

The Voices of the Passed Cemetery Tour returns to Boggsville Friday, May 26th, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Come join us and take a horse drawn wagon ride to come face to face with the heroes and scoundrels of our past.

The cemetery tour, Boggsville’s spring fundraiser, is back by popular demand. We’ve borrowed historic re-enactors from the talented crew at Bent’s Fort. Come enjoy the fun and hear the stories of our ghostly residents but be ready for some surprises. You’ll meet the grieving mother of Juan Basquez, reportedly the first person buried at the cemetery; John Bressler, a freight driver who later became sheriff of Bent County; Civil War veteran Sgt. George Thompson, who was the oldest person in Bent County when he died; Deputy Charlie Faber who was killed in a shoot-out with legendary gunfighter Clay Allison; and George Wick, who searched for gold in the Klondike and was editor of our very own Bent County Democrat from 1899 until 1930.

Wagons load every 30 minutes at the Boggsville Historic Site and each tour takes approximately one hour. Adults are $10, Youth under 16 are $5 and children under 6 are free. All proceeds support the preservation of Boggsville. Enjoy refreshments and tour the historic Boggsville homes while you wait. Reservations are not necessary but larger groups are encouraged to do so to ensure you all seated in the same wagon. You can make reservations by calling 303-427-2317.

If you haven’t been to Boggsville lately, you’ll be amazed at the recent preservation progress.

Come out and have some fun while learning about our early Bent County residents. The Boggsville Historic Site is located at 28120 Colorado Highway 101 in Las Animas, Colorado.

That is about 2 miles south of the courthouse on Hwy 101. See you Friday!
