Obituary

Wilma Lee Buck was born on September 15, 1924.

Her parents were Olive M Simpson Buck and Charles William (CW) Buck Senior. Wilma attended Fowler schools for twelve years. She spent her teenage years in the depression but was much more fortunate than many of the families across the country and always said how God blessed her family.

After graduation from high school in 1942, Wilma attended Colorado Women's College in Denver. She earned her Associate of Science degree. Wilma and Walter D. Gager married in 1945, spending their first two years of marriage living in Pueblo where Walt worked at the CF&I. Returning to Fowler, Walter built a building and opened a paint and body shop where the Fowler Fire Department is now located. Wilma started working at First National Bank in Fowler and eventually became the Head Cashier.

During their marriage they had three children, Gary, Jim and John. After Jim and John were born, Wilma was a stay at home mom for several years until her mother Olive Buck, decided to retire from running the Fowler Tribune. Wilma and her brother Charlie became Co-Publishers of the Fowler Tribune. She spent the next 30 years running the newspaper, raising a family, spending time with her grandkids, friends and pursuing her many hobbies.

Wilma was preceded by her parents (CW and Olive Buck), husband (Walt Gager), brother (Charlie Buck), son (John Gager) and grandson (Rick Gager).

Those left to cherish Wilma’s memory include her sons Gary Gager of Fowler and Jim (Val) Gager of Fowler. In addition, she has five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, whom she absolutely adored. Grandchildren include Bryan Gager, Lisa Campbell, Nicole (Michael) Hartman, Sarah Gager and Rebekah Gager. Great-grandchildren include Lacie and Drew Gager (Rick), Beau and Brittney Gager (Bryan), Kaitlyn Muth and Connor Campbell (Lisa), Logan and Evangeline Hartman (Nicole).

The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at Fowler Health Care.

We will always carry the memory of Wilma in our hearts.

Funeral service will be Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Fowler with Pastor Duane Kincaid officiating, Interment will follow at the Fowler Cemetery.
