La Junta Police Department Responds to 9,634 Calls Year to Date

The La Junta Police Department has responded to 9,634 calls this year, 467 of which were traffic stops.

If people see something they are encouraged to sign a complaint. It is important to be able to identify the driver, so a good vehicle description really helps, according to La Junta Police Chief Todd Quick.

Currently there are two officers working per shift, and the department is budgeted for three officers per shift. Chief Quick said, POST certification can take four months of training, then three more months of in the field training. Currently, three officers are actively in field training, and two prospect officers will be attending the next academy.

Quick went on to say that usually for a town of La Junta's size there would be four officers on duty. The La Junta Police Department is trying to do more with less as they strive to protect our citizens.
