Obituary

Mildred "Millie" Girard passed away on June 13, 2023. Millie was born on September 19, 1926, to Mina Pauline Bodenhofer and Fred Jon Huber, in Denver, Colorado. Her mother Mina died when Millie was three years old. Several years later Fred married Anna Borger who had a daughter Virginia.

Millie grew up in Denver, attending Alcott Elementary, Skinner Junior High, and North High School, which her future husband also attended. After high school she worked as a typist, then for the State Revenue Department.

She married Grant Dale Girard, June 9, 1950. Grant Dale was attending medical school at Colorado General Hospital and began his internship about eight months later. On January 1, 1952, the couple had a daughter, Dale Ann Girard. On June 23, 1953, another daughter, Janet Lee Girard, was born.

Unfortunately, on February 2, 1966, Grant Dale passed away at age 39 from a heart attack. Millie went to work for her father-in-law at the police department. After a few months she got a job with the Denver Public Schools Music Department, which she enjoyed until her retirement.

After many years, Millie decided to move to La Junta to Casa Del Sol to be near Janet. After she fell and broke her ankle, she moved to Evergreen Gardens. She loved being a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Denver and joined the La Junta chapter when she moved. She was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos. She had many hobbies: crochet, scrapbooking, Mod Podge plates, golf, and exercise dance classes, cross-stitching and calligraphy.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Mina Huber, stepmother Anna Huber Hack, stepsister Virginia Moore, husband Grant Dale Girard, daughter Dale Ann Girard Shaft, and son-in-law Michael Earl Miller. Survivors include daughter Janet Lee Miller, grandson Zachary Miller and wife Shanna, grandchildren Avery Sophia and Callie Isabel Miller, nephews Larry, Grant and Mark Girard, Cousin Mary Ann Tucker, niece Terry Muhn, and son-in-law Michael Shaft.
