Obituary

Tom Allsworth, 81, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family that loved him very much on July 22, 2023. Tom died from complications associated with cancer, after having survived several near-death experiences in his life. Thomas H. Allsworth was born on August 3, 1941, in La Junta, CO. his parents were Ross & Hattie (McGlothin) Allsworth. Tom was the oldest of four children. He attended La Junta schools. Tom and Mary Ann Harrington were married on March 12, 1960, and enjoyed 63 years of their life together raising their family of five children; VeAnn, Sue, Rod, JoBeth, and Ross.

Tom enjoyed farming and ranching in the Higbee community south of La Junta. This is where he and Mary Ann raised their family and have resided there since 1965. Tom was known for his strong work ethic, unbelievable brute strength, and honesty. A man of few words but didn’t hesitate to speak his mind if the need arose. Tom had an unsurpassed ability to mechanic, haul and stack hay that stayed put, and build fence that would last a lifetime; and did this for most of his life until health issues prevented him from doing so. Tom really enjoyed “blowing the cobwebs out” of his ’66 Chevelle Super Sport. He also enjoyed hauling silage with his friends. Tom believed in doing things right the first time and took pride in his work no matter what it might be. He passed that character trait on to his children and grandchildren. Tom always loved spending time with his family and friends. He looked forward to the annual brandings each year when his kids, grand kids, great-grandkids and friends would converge in Higbee for three days getting his cattle gathered and worked.

Tom is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; daughter, VeAnn Clark and husband Roney of Morse, TX; daughter, Sue Etbauer and husband Robert of Goodwell, Ok; son, Rod Allsworth and wife Luann of Hazen, ND; daughter, JoBeth Waters and husband J.A. of Meade, KS; son Ross Allsworth and wife Mandy of La Junta, CO. Thirteen grandchildren; Reese & Ry Clark; Chancy Etbauer, Trell Etbauer & wife Kaylee, Shade Etbauer and wife Amy, Christina Bible; Shonee Allsworth, Jollene Serna and husband Carlos; Kaylee Coles, Shayla Blattner and husband Chuck, Devon Waters, Dillon Allsworth, Dane Allsworth and fiancé Kelli Myhre; and sister, Kathy Reed. Eighteen great-grandchildren: Talon Scheer, Rally & Ridge Etbauer; Sierra Allsworth, Wade Goodrich, Shayle & Isaiah Guillermo, Shauntaye, Dion, & Roxann Allsworth, Daniella Vigil; Rowdy and Bryar Coles; Charleigh, Rhett, Olen, & Bayler Blattner; and Luxton Allsworth; and a host of extended family, life-long friends, and his loyal companions – his dogs.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Ross & Hattie Allsworth; brother, Terry Allsworth; step-father, Bob Saban, and his parents-in-law, Jake & Stella Harrington.
