Letter to the Editor: La Junta Kid's Rodeo a National Treasure
The La Junta Kid's Rodeo and Race Meet is a National Treasure in my humble opinion. The longest running, and most unique event for children and those who are children at heart.
My family has been involved with the rodeo since it's conception. My mother's mother and her siblings participated in the 1st annual event and my mother's father volunteered at the first and was an integral part for many years after, he also provided an incredible array of Shetland ponies and horses for many children to enjoy riding (or maybe not, as is often the case with Shetlands!)
Our long tradition of horsemanship, dedication to a country way of life and cooperation with our fellow human beings always shines brightly at the La Junta Kid's Rodeo and Race Meet.
It takes a village has never been a more appropriate sentiment than when used to describe the La Junta Kid's Rodeo. The absolute committed (some may call us crazy committed) enthusiasm of the team of people that come together to do their best to ensure that the La Junta Kid's Rodeo and Race Meet is the greatest experience possible for all involved is an amazing sight to behold; rarely before have I seen such intense dedication and cooperation.
I am incredibly grateful, appreciative and in awe of all who give every bit of themselves to this amazing event every year without fail.
I am humbled and honored to be a part of it and get to witness the love, support and cheering on of our fellow "competitors" and the beautiful coming together of like hearted individuals who love rodeo and horse racing.
A HUGE HEART FELT THANK YOU ALL for making the 86th annual La Junta Kid's Rodeo a success, may next year be even better! Until then May God Bless You and Keep You Safe.
