La Junta Fire Department VS Gas Truck Fire on US Hwy 50

At approx 0818 this morning we were toned out to a reported gas truck on fire on Hwy 50 about 3 miles East of La Junta.

Chief Davidson arrived on scene and found both East bound lanes blocked with heavy fire coming from on overturned gas delivery truck.

Crews began knocking down the surrounding area of fire. The truck driver was found on the other side of the Highway. Crews gave aid to him and transported to the hospital.

Mutual Aid was requested from Rocky Ford Fire and Las Animas Fire for water supply.

LJPD, OCSO and CSP helped shut the highway down and traffic control. 1100 gallons of diesel and gasoline is what was burning. The cause of the crash is being investigated by CSP.
