Rocky Ford Police Make Arrest for Stabbing After Manhunt

At 3:46pm, August 31st, 2023, Rocky Ford Police were dispatched to a call for a report of a female party stabbed multiple times near the intersection of S Main and Locust in Rocky Ford.

Law enforcement officers from Rocky Ford Police Dept. and Otero County Sheriff's Office arrived on scene around 3:48pm and immediately administered medical care for the female party on scene. 

Rocky Ford EMS transported the female party to La Junta for treatment and she was flown to Colorado Springs for trauma treatment shortly thereafter.

Law enforcement officers searched for the reported suspect from the incident and concurrently obtained an arrest warrant. 

Information was later received that the suspect was seen entering a home in the vicinity of 7th and Beech in Rocky Ford.

Law enforcement officers attempted to make contact with the male party at the location, without success, and maintained a perimeter, while seeking the resources of SWAT. 

At 10:40pm, 65 year old Mr. Charles Amaya was arrested at the location without incident and transported to Bent County Jail, charged with Criminal Intent, Attempted Murder, 1st Degree Assault and Domestic Violence. 

Mr. Amaya is considered innocent until proven guilty in a Court of Law.
