HERBERT “HERBY” GUS DEHERRERA

February 1, 1941 - September 16, 2023

 

Obituary

Herbert “Herby” Gus DeHerrera peacefully entered into rest  Saturday, September 16, 2023, in his home of 52 years surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 1, 1941, in La Isla, Colorado to Frutoso and Anna DeHerrera. He was 82 years of age.

Herby married Betty Medina July 3, 1961, in Antonito, Colorado. She was the love of his life.

Herby is survived by his beloved wife, Betty DeHerrera, daughters Paula (Mark Lucero) DeHerrera, Samantha DeHerrera all of Pueblo, grandchildren, Antonette (Joe), Thomas, Kevin (Jessica), Tashia (Charles), Steven, Nate, Gabrielle, Ashley, Jalen (Tiffany), Elicia (Zach), great grandchildren, Antonio, Tomas, Diego, Mark Jr, Arturo, Autumn, Olivia, Isaiah, Leno, Stevie Anna, Dianna, Joel, Cruz, Zaira, sister Lilly (Aggie) Jiron, and the newest addition to our village, Shirley Medina who provided much needed support in caring for Herby at home, also his amazing barber for 2 1/2 decades Leroy Garcia.

Herby is proceeded in death by his sons, Herby, Steve, Gary, Bobby DeHerrera, parents Anna and Frutoso, five brothers Frank, Orlando, Frutoso, Fred, Chris, DeHerrera, two sisters Lena Johnson and Rosie Goodbar.

Herby retired early after getting injured and becoming disabled at Colorado College. This gave him the opportunity to coach his sons, being involved in school committees and Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts.

He enjoyed volunteering and being involved in church functions and kept his devotion in faith till his last hour before his passing.

His love and passion of all sports was passed on to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he was proud to pass his legacy on to.

He especially loved spending time with his family. He always made sure everyone was taken care of and he had a special gift of making everyone around him happy. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him and loved him.

He’s truly our hero, always making everyone laugh, the epitome of integrity and dedication to his family.

Services are Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Anne's in Pueblo, Colorado.

Johnson-Romero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
