La Junta Fire Dept VS 109 Feeders Residential Structure Fire

At approx 1121 we responded to 109 Feeders just south of La Junta for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival heavy smoke was seen coming from all the eves around a single story residence.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire. Crews began searching the inside of the house and found 6 small puppies and two older dogs and rescued them and retuned them to their owner.

Crews had to cut numerous ventilation holes on the roof to access the fire. Crews on the inside had to pull the ceiling throughout the house to help stop the fire spread.

The roof gave us issues due to three separate roofs and attics from being added on over the years.

Mutual aid was called in from Rocky Ford Fire Department, Cheraw Fire Department, Las Animas Fire Department for water tenders to help with water supply and Otero County Road and Bridge brought a tender as well and Otero County Sheriffs Office for assistance as well.

The fire started from a malfunction of an outside electrical outlet that shorted out.
