Colorado Human Services Recognizes Otero DHS Staff Achievements

Otero County Department of Human Services Director Donna Rhode said Colorado Human Services recognized two staff members for their recent outstanding achievements.

Michele "Shelly" Vasquez received the 2023 case worker recognition award. Rhode said nominations are received state-wide in an effort to recognize case workers for the excellent work they do in really challenging situations. Vasquez is one of the five case workers chosen to be recognized from across Colorado. Jeff Romero from the Colorado State Department of Human Services came down and bought donuts and presented her with the award, which stated, "Thank you for your exceptional service to children and families. Your impact is invaluable, from improving agency culture to serving as a role model for your peers."

Child Welfare Unit Supervisor Amy Palomino, whose job runs 24/7, Rhode said, was recognized by the Colorado State Department of Human Services for outstanding work in child welfare. Rhode said Palomino was also presented with a certificate. "We already know it, but it's nice that the state came down and recognized all of Amy's hard work." Rhode said.
