La Junta Fire Department VS Late Night Structure Fire

At approx 946pm we responded to the 500 blk of Cimarron for a reported structure fire with smoke coming from the attic.

Eng 1 arrived to find heavy smoke showing from the attic. Eng 1 crew assisted the occupants out of the house.

As other crews arrived a quick offensive attack began searching for the fire. There were multiple small attics and the fire had spread quickly through them.

While crews were inside tearing out ceilings and started to knock down the fire. A crew cut a ventilation hole on the roof to aid in fire extinguishment.

The crews battled very cold weather at 10 degrees. Extensive overhaul was conducted to make sure there was no hidden fire in the attic.

All occupants were relocated to a local hotel. No other injuries were noted. The cause of the fire was faulty wiring in the attic.

All crews cleared the scene and put equipment back in service at 0130am.
