Obituary

Mary Evelyn Spaid of La Junta, Colorado entered into rest, January 22, 2024 at the Bent County Nursing Care Center in Las Animas, Colorado. She was born September 24, 1934, to Mary Helen and Clark Spaulding in Waynesfield, Ohio. She was 89 years of age.

She is survived by three children, Michelle “Shelly” (Curtis) Bensch of Beaver, Oklahoma, Mark (Patty) Spaid of Naples, New York, and Mary Beth Lewis of La Junta, Colorado. Grandchildren, Aundrea (Troy) McKay, Seth (Patty) Grantham, Micah Grantham, all of Bakersfield, California, Matthew Grantham of Yuma, Arizona, Jake Spaid, and Luke Spaid of Rochester, New York,  Megan Spaid of Naples, New York, Ben Spaid of Jersey City, New York, Bryden Lewis of La Junta, Colorado, and Tyler (Kaylan) Lewis of Pueblo, Colorado.18 great-grandchildren of California and Colorado, sister, Esther Stoops of Indiana, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Spaid, parents, Clark and Mary Helen Spaulding, grandson, Bryce Grantham, brothers, Clark and Jim, sisters, Dorothy, Helen, Betty and twin sister, Margaret.

She loved gospel music, chocolate, Walmart sugar cookies, singing, liked talking to others. She was an excellent Seamstress and never knew a stranger. She baked bread and sweets. Mary made a loving home for the 3 children she inherited when they were 10, 13, and 14 years of age.   

Memorial contributions can be made and sent to Mary Beth Lewis, 902 Cimarron Ave. La Junta, Colorado.

A Celebration of her life will be held, 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the First Southern Baptist Church. 2006 Smithland Ave. La Junta, Colorado. Arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of the Johnson-Romero Family Funeral Home.
