Rocky Ford Police VS 911 Dispatch Harrasment

About 8:49pm, 22nd February, 2024, the Rocky Ford Police Department, working with the Otero County Sheriff's Office, arrested a 36 year old male suspect, Michael Vermette.

The Rocky Ford Police Department were notified by our dispatch center, that Vermette had made a significant number of calls to the 911 emergency phone line, with no emergency, or exigent circumstances to warrant the calls.

Vermette's actions physically interfered with the dispatch center's ability to keep 911 emergency phone lines available for legitimate emergency calls, jeopardizing public safety.

In excess of thirty (30) phone calls were made this date, which in addition to jeopardizing public safety, were both harassing and abusive to our dispatchers.

Vermette was charged with numerous counts of harassment, obstructing government functions, false reporting to law enforcement, menacing, attempt to influence a public official, obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Vermette was transported by Rocky Ford Police Department officers to the Bent County Jail, where he was booked in for above mentioned charges.

The Rocky Ford Police Department have zero tolerance for violating the respective statutes that relate to interfering with the operation of our dispatch center. This is a critical service to not only the Rocky Ford Police Department, but many other partner law enforcement agencies, fire departments, medical and community members of the Arkansas Valley.
