Obituary

Julia Ramirez, mother to Daniel, Debora, Damon, and Diane passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Her final day was spent filled with love and surrounded by her large and loving family. Known by those close to her as Gma. Julia was born in Holly, Colorado to Bibiano and Mary Martinez.

She graduated Valedictorian at Holly High School class of 1960, then pursued and completed an associate degree at Lamar Community College in 1961. After raising her four children and dedicating 40+ years as a federal employee for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) where she had an amazing supportive second family in her coworkers, she retired in 2013 and turned her focus to her grandchildren.

Her last years were spent enjoying the many activities and milestones of her grandchildren, as well as enjoying her retirement with her children. She was a dedicated member of the Indian Trails Council, served as Treasurer of St. Martin De Porres-Circle 3, and was a cherished member of the Mariachi y Coro Santa Maria choir. All who knew her would describe her as strong, caring, and fiercely dedicated to her family.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary; her father, Bibiano; sister, Sylveria Martinez; brother, Frank Martinez; brother, Raymond Martinez; sister, Maria (La Mocha) Gomez. She is survived by her sister, Lorraine Segobia of Highland, California; brother Paul H. Martinez of Garden City, Kansas; her four children, Daniel R. Ramirez of Austin Texas, Debora Dufour of Centennial, Colorado, Damon R. Ramirez (Loujean) of La Junta, Colorado, and Diane Ramirez (Robert James) of La Junta, Colorado; her grandchildren, Ariana Dufour, Donovan Ramirez, Hailee Ramirez, Jeremiah Lopez-Ramirez, Jaisa Ramirez, Cassie Cahill, Emalie Cahill, Myah Hernandez, Mario Watkins-Childs, and Arianna Harris; and her great-grandchildren, Easton, Paislee, Mattilyn, Arlo, and Kamila. She will also be greatly missed by her numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and her loving pets, Jax, Kobe, Gigi, and Kitty.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Friday, March 22, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta with Father Joseph Matitu officiating. Graveside service will follow the Mass at 2:30 p.m. at Holly Cemetery in Holly Colorado. Visitation will be Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta.
