Obituary
Maria (Mary) Antonia Madrid of Fort Collins, Colorado, formerly of Rocky Ford, Colorado, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
Maria was born in Rio Mora, New Mexico to Abelino and Delfinia (Aguilar) Esquibel on May 10, 1925. She was 98 years of age. Maria was the fifth of eleven children born to Abelino and Delfinia. Maria moved with her parents and some siblings to Rocky Ford, Colorado in 1941.
Maria married her lifetime sweetheart, Jose Garfield Madrid in Rocky Ford in 1946. Maria and Jose started their family in 1947 and eventually had 10 children. Maria enjoyed her full-time job of wife, mother and homemaker. She was an amazing example of motherly love and support.
In addition to being a full-time mother, Maria enjoyed walking, baking, gardening, flowers, sewing and reading. Maria was the biggest fan of her many children's educational, sports and parochial activities and showed up to support her children during their many activities and ambitions.
Maria was preceded in death by her Husband, Jose in 1967, father, Abelino in 1969, mother, Delfinia in 1981, son, Charles Rudy in 2007, son, Jose Garfield in 2014, and daughter, Delfinia in April 2024. Maria was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Isabel, Alarindo, Beatrice, Isidro, Donaciano, Salomon, Edwardo, Reynaldo and Lloyd as well as father and mother in-law, Frederico and Maxine, sisters and brothers in-law Rose, Gilbert, Joe Benny, Sullivan, Dorothy Gloria, and Steve.
Maria is survived by daughter Delia wife of Manual Pantoya of Broomfield, Colorado, son Joseph Richard husband of Rosemary Madrid of Lakewood, Colorado, daughter Shirley wife of Carlos Ortega of Lakewood, Colorado, son Mario of Colorado Springs, Colorado, daughter Lydia wife of Mark Stiles of Lakewood, Colorado, daughter Patricia wife of Daniel Cruz of Colorado Springs, Colorado and son Marcus husband of Don Randall of Fort Collins, Colorado, and daughter-in-law Laurie Gallegos Madrid. Maria is the proud grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother of 60 amazing children and adults that made her life so full and truly blessed. Maria is also survived by brother Pete Esquibel husband of Grace of Colorado Springs and sister Dora Zertuche of Colorado Springs and sister-in-law Vera in addition to sisters-in-law Bonnie Trujillo of Pueblo, Dorothy Encinias of Rocky Ford and brother-in-law Fred Madrid of Pomona, California. Maria was grateful to have loved hundreds of nieces and nephews of many generations.
Maria was cared for in her last nine years by her best friend she considered a granddaughter, LaTonya Marshall. Along with Marcus and Don, LaTonya made Maria's last few years truly joyful and comfortable. Our home will miss mama's love and light.
Maria will be celebrated in a Christian Memorial Mass on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in La Junta, Colorado with viewing starting at 9:00am, a Rosary at 10:00am, and the Funeral Mass starting at 10:30am.
