John DeHerrera

June 14th, 1944 – April 25th, 2024

 

Obituary

John DeHerrera, 79, of Rocky Ford passed away on April 24, 2024 in Ordway. John was born in Center, Colorado to Floyd & Josefina DeHerrera. John was married to Marlene Fixico and lived with her on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona for over 30 years. John was a very loving and caring person, he was very friendly to everyone he met. John had an affinity for the Native American culture. He adopted the art of carving Kachina dolls, which are a carved representation of Katsina Spirits, a Hopi religion. After Marlene passed away he moved back to Rocky Ford. After he moved to Crowley County Nursing Center he made friends with everyone there. He got along with the other residents and the staff would often come visit him in his room. John loved his dogs, he also enjoyed playing cards and listening to the radio. He also had a strong work ethic throughout his life.

John is survived by his 3 children, 8 sisters and 3 brothers. He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene DeHerrera.
According to his wishes services were held privately with his family at Valley View Cemetery.
