The Otero Sheriff’s Office has identified a juvenile suspect that allegedly made the threats. The suspect was not a student at the Swink School District. An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect, and they were taken into custody by a neighboring agency.

Currently we assess there is no danger to the Swink School or the community in relation to the threats made.

Although an arrest has been made, this is merely an accusation. The juvenile is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Otero Sheriff Investigating Social Media Threat to Swink Schools

Swink, Colo. – May 12, 2024 – The Otero County Sheriff's Office was notified of a threat posted on social media which was directed to the Swink School District. The Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the threat. 

The Swink School District has decided to cancel school for tomorrow, Monday May 13th, 2024 out of precaution. The Sheriff’s Office is working with Swink School officials to ensure the safety of students and staff.
