BENT COUNTY - LAS ANIMAS CEMETERY AND FORT LYON NATIONAL CEMETERY MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY

A Memorial Day ceremony will be held at Fort Lyon National Cemetery on Monday, May 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., hosted by VFW Post #2411 and Auxiliary and American Legion Post #6.

Honored guests from the Pikes Peak National Cemetery and Gold Star mother Scoti Domeij will be in attendance. Guests from Pikes Peak National Cemetery include Administrative Specialist Thomas Hoffland, Foreman Ethan Showman, Volunteer Chaplain Mary Koepp, mother-in-law to a Coast Guardsman, and Volunteer Pat Zehnder, widow of an Air Force veteran. They along with local and youth volunteers will lay wreaths to honor our fallen soldiers.

Scoti Domeij, President and Media Liaison, Pikes Peak Gold Star Mothers—American Gold Star Mothers, Inc.—The Department of Colorado will be the guest speaker.

A Bent County Commissioner will read the Memorial Day Proclamation.

The Kit Carson Chapel, situated on the Fort Lyon Homeless Coalition grounds where the Fort Lyon National Cemetery is located, will be open to the public.

We urge as many people as possible to attend. We encourage youth to come out and learn about the importance of patriotism, Americanism, and the impact our fallen soldiers have had on the freedoms we enjoy today.

We invite everyone to attend this impressive ceremony this Memorial Day to honor those who have sacrificed all.
