Obituary

Eliseo “Gerald” Berumen, 93, of Rocky Ford, CO died peacefully at his home in Rocky Ford on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. He was born September 10, 1930 in Nepesta, CO to Elias & Guadalupe (Diaz) Berumen.

He served in the US Marines, PFC, from 1952 – 1954. He worked for the Pueblo Army Depot where he worked with the “Hawk Missile Program”, retiring after 30 years of service. He loved baseball and followed the Rockies. He stayed active by joining bowling and baseball leagues where he earned many trophies. Later he took up golfing, which he loved. He earned a few trophies there as well. He loved all his family and enjoyed camping and fishing. He was a “jack of all trades”. It seemed there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. Gerald was a kind, caring and generous man who took care of everyone. He will be greatly missed.

Gerald is survived by his son, Gerald Berumen of Rocky Ford, CO; daughters, Elizabeth Harlan of Colorado Springs, CO and Cynthia (Rich) Graston of Pueblo West, CO; 12 grandchildren, including Andrew Berumen, whom he raised & Andrew remained with him and lovingly cared for him until his passing; 24 great-grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren; brother Jesus (Sally) Berumen and sister, Mary Cruz Moya. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Leonila “Nellie” of 46 years; daughters, Priscilla, Dolores, Phyllis, and Debra; 5 grandchildren, baby Andrew, Adam, William, Abraham, and Eric; parents, Elias & Guadalupe (Diaz) Berumen; brothers, Manuel, Fortunato, Edmund, Edward, and Elias; sisters, Maria & Hope Rodriguez; and son-in-law, Gerald Harlan.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, CO followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Father Joseph Lawrence officiating. Interment following the Mass at Valley View Cemetery in Rocky Ford.
