Lincoln County Sheriff Dodges His Own Patrol Car as It's Struck by Traffic

On June 15, 2024 at 2:55 PM, Sergeant Cole Britton was assisting a broken down motorist on Highway 71 near milepost 74 (26 miles south of Limon). Sergeant Britton was directing traffic and assisting the motorist, who was unable to move his vehicle and was in the roadway.

Sgt. Britton positioned his patrol car behind the disabled vehicle, with his emergency lights activated. Sgt. Britton, as seen, observed a motorist approaching rapidly and realized a collision was inevitable. Sgt. Britton and the original motorist ran out of the collision path to safety.

The driver of the second vehicle that impacted Sgt. Britton's patrol car was transported to a local hospital, and the crash is being investigated by our partners at the Colorado State Patrol. Paired with effective training, preparation, and luck; Sergeant Britton is home safe with his family tonight.

Thanks to all that came to us in our time of need!
