Otero County Sheriff's Office Search & Rescue Update June 18, 2024

Tuesday, June 18, 2024: There has been talk on various groups here in social media stating that we are not doing anything, and that is not the case.  We attempted to get additional water resources to the river to assist in the search for today, but were unsuccessful.

We will be doing a helicopter search tomorrow of the river from the head gates into Bent County as long as no one is flying drones (including agency drones).  If drones are being operated in the area, the aircraft will have to land and it’s operation terminated. Which we would like to avoid.

County officials have been checking on foot, by vehicle, and drones daily, just realize we are a small agency with limited personnel and even more limited resources and equipment. We are also still responding to other calls for service throughout the county.

As water levels drop, we will enhance our search as conditions and equipment limitations allow.  Water levels are likely to increase soon, so we are going to exploit this opportunity as best we can.

If there is any significant update of information, you will see it right here. -Sheriff Shawn Mobley
