Intoxicated Driver Arrested After Wrong-Way Highway Chase Through Springfield

On 07/13/2024 just after midnight, dispatch received a call regarding an erratic driver. The vehicle was reported to be south of Springfield heading north on Hwy 287.

Deputies responded to the call and located the vehicle driving northbound in the southbound lanes. The driver remained in the wrong lane despite the presence of oncoming traffic.

Deputies attempted a traffic stop but the driver failed to stop as required until entering Springfield. During the investigation, deputies determined that the driver had likely consumed alcohol and even had a cold open beer in the cup holder.

The driver, intoxicated to the point that she had no idea what direction she had even been traveling, was taken in for chemical testing. It was determined that the driver was over twice the legal limit. The driver was booked into the Baca County Jail for DUI and Reckless Driving.

The open road trip beverage earned her an additional charge as well.  Thankfully the deputies were able to resolve this situation before the driver hurt or killed herself or other motorists. Always remember to be vigilant while traveling because other drivers can make poor decisions. Baca County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Springfield Police Department and witnesses for their assistance during this incident.

The driver will have a presumption of innocence if/until proven guilty in a court of law.
