Ernestine Gonzales, born on August 6, 1951, in Las Animas, Colorado, passed away peacefully on October 8 2024, in Pueblo, Colorado. Ernestine lived a life filled with passion, support for others, and vibrant connections within her community and family.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ernestine is survived by her children—Juanita (Rick) Gallegos of Pueblo, CO, Josie (Sergio) Lopez of La Junta, CO, and Alfred (Dana) Gonzales of Amarillo, TX—dear to her heart. Her legacy lives on through her 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, who will remember her for her unwavering love and generosity.

Ernestine's worked for five-years at the Colorado Boys Ranch, where she made lasting impacts on the lives of the youth she worked with. Known for her bar tending skills, she spent much of her life engaging with patrons, fostering an environment of camaraderie. Her love for dancing was evident, as it brought her joy and allowed her to celebrate life with others. She was dedicated to helping those less fortunate, often reaching out to the homeless without judgment, embodying a spirit of unconditional kindness. Her straightforward nature meant that if she had something to say, she would do so openly and honestly.

Those who knew Ernestine can attest to her myriad hobbies and interests. She delighted in visiting yard sales, cultivating her garden, and spending quality time with friends at the VFW and with members of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Women Auxiliary. Her commitment to her family and community was a cornerstone of her life. She was always willing to extend a helping hand to anyone she encountered, an attribute that made her a beloved figure among family and friends.

Ernestine will be remembered by her surviving siblings: Josie Perez, Jenny (Wilbert) Maes, Rita (Arthur) Apodaca, Patricia (Albert) Davis, Theresa Nava, Juan Sonny Salazar, Valerie Salazar, Mona Anaya, Mike Salazar, Danny (Sandy) Salazar, Larry Salazar, Mary Alice (Tita) Perez, Mary Ann (Dennis) Salazar, Elizabeth Ramirez, Gina Lazano, and Mario Lazano. She also leaves behind her son, Daniel Aragon, as well as special friends Sharon Shane and Don Rizzuto, who cherished her companionship.

Ernestine is reunited in eternity with her beloved husband, Bennie Apodaca, her father, Ralph Gonzales, her mother and stepfather, Annie (Jesus) Pulido, and her siblings Phillip Gonzales, Stephanie Salazar, Mary Louise Salazar, Eloy Salazar, and Ricky Salazar. She is also predeceased by her cherished grandson, Justin Dominguez.

Ernestine Gonzales was not just a remarkable individual whose life touched many, but a testament to the power of generosity, love, and sincerity in a world that can often feel disconnected. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
