Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Ray Swann, a devoted husband, proud father, and respected member of the community, passed on October 9, 2024, at the age of 92. He was born August 16, 1932, in La Junta to Wilbur &Irene (Myers) Swann. Chuck lived a life marked by dedication, hard work and passion. 

Throughout his career, Chuck was a very dependable person in the workforce, holding various positions that showcased his versatility and commitment. He served as a warehouse manager for the City of La Junta, where he known for his exceptional managerial skills and ability to lead. Chuck’s career also included working for the Santa Fe Railroad as a purchaser and he further contributed to his career working as a mechanic at Henry & Bulldoff. His industrious nature saw him successfully navigate several other jobs throughout his life, earning admiration and respect from his colleagues and friends alike. 

Outside of his professional endeavors, Chuck was a man of diverse interests and hobbies. He found joy in playing pool, often challenging friends to a game at local places, engaging in friendly competition that brought laughter and camaraderie. An enthusiast of building model airplanes, he spent many hours crafting intricate designs, showcasing his patience and attention to detail. Chuck also held a deep affection for animals, treating them with love and kindness throughout his life. 

Chuck leaves behind a legacy of hard work, creativity, and a love for life that will be cherished by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by family and friends within the community. 

Chuck is survived by his children, Terri Fagan of La Junta, CO; Alan (Jenifer) Swann of San Clamente, CA; Christine (Delbert) Fairchild of Wichita, KS; daughter-in-law, Jeri Swann; step-daughters, Brenda Priddy, Lilian Martinez, Antoinette Martinez, and Barbara Hanna; grandchildren, Kimberly (Daniel) Gonzales, Jason (Renee) Fagan, Christopher (Sarah) Brock, Levi (Minda) Brock, Kyle (Cindy) Fagan, C.R. (Cathlene) Swann, Cameron Northrop, Alan Swann, Jr., and Weston Wright; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Fred Swann & Theresa Swann; numerous nieces & nephews also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles Swann II; sister-in-law, Betty Swann; and ex-wife, Priscilla Pryor-Swann. 

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 9:30 a.m with Memorial Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. with Father Joseph Matitu officiating. Both services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish. Inurnment to follow Mass at Calvary Cemetery.
