Barbara Ann “Tootie” Martin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 26th, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on February 23rd, 1949, in La Junta, Colorado, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Robert Edward Walter and Claranna Lee Walter (Smith).
Tootie’s Life was defined by her unwavering love for her family, especially her devoted husband, Gail. Together, they shared a passion for adventure, often attending horse races, auctions, and supporting their grandchildren in all their activities. Tootie also enjoyed the thrill of the occasional gamble alongside Gail, creating joyful memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.
A hardworking businesswoman and bookkeeper for many years, Barbara dedicated herself to her profession with diligence and integrity. She and Gail co-owned many antique stores throughout their almost 43-year-long marriage together and enjoyed all their treasures. Her warm spirit and genuine kindness endeared her to everyone she met, leaving a lasting impact on all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Her faith in God was a cornerstone of her life, providing strength and comfort through both challenges and celebrations. Tootie’s legacy of love, laughter and faith will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband and best friend Cecil Gail Martin of the family home, children Robert Frank (Stephanie) Martin of Fowler, Letti (Steve Walker) Martin of La Junta, and daughter-in-law Brenda Martin. Her grandchildren Hannah (Michael Hernandez) Martin, Meghan (Scott) Wiker, Andrew Jongeneel, Trevor Bishop, Ashley Yergert, Nicholas (Diana) Jongeneel, Steven Martin, Emily Martin, and Claireanna Martin. Great grandchildren Myah and Tavis Hernandez and Brother Robert “Poncho” (Shirley) Walter. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that she loved with all her heart and then some.
She was preceded in death by her parents and in- laws as well as two children Paula Bishop and Justin Martin.
A celebration of Tootie’s life will be held on October 31st, 2024 at 11am at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service.
