Free Thanksgiving and Christmas-Themed Concert Featuring Soprano Tanya Perkins on Nov. 24

An exciting free concert is coming up at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 24 at the First Church of La Junta, 111 E. 20th Street. Soprano Tanya Perkins will sing popular songs following themes of Thanksgiving, Christmas and patriotism. She will be accompanied by Dean Rees on piano.

Tanya is known in La Junta as the featured performer in a past Community Concert and the individual and group singing lessons she has given to Picketwire actors and the College Community Choir. She has also taught singing workshops and given concerts in La Veta at the Spanish Peaks Celtic Music Festival. She had a one-woman show in La Veta and Trinidad based on the life of a survivor of the 1914 Ludlow Massacre.

Performing and teaching have always been Tanya’s passion. She was nominated by the Denver Drama Critics Circle for “Best Actress in a Musical.” Tanya has taught voice and musical theatre technique in New York City and in Denver, where she has her own studio and teaches group and private voice lessons. Her popularity in the classroom has made its way into the recording studio as a vocal technician and musical director for recording projects and high school musicals. She has also appeared and lent her voice to numerous commercials and voice-overs.

Tanya has recorded solo albums of inspirational music entitled, Still With Thee and Lead Me To The Rock, that compelled one critic to say, “Tanya’s voice rocks the chandeliers in Heaven.” She is now working on a Christmas album which will be ready next year. All her recorded music and several of the Christmas songs are available on her website: www.TanyaKayPerkins.com

With this concert, Tanya hopes to lift and inspire the audience with a show that brings the spirit of Thanksgiving and Christmas closer together. It also includes songs that are a tribute to America and the freedoms we cherish. Tanya appreciates the accompaniment provided by Dean Rees. She calls him “outstanding! He’s intuitive, he listens, and is easy to communicate with. He puts a singer at ease. He also plays with great emotion.” Tanya is excited to have the opportunity to sing again in La Junta, and to work with Dean.
