Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Carol Terry, 83, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who departed this life peacefully in her home on November 18, 2024. Carol was an extraordinary woman whose light touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Carol was born in Trinidad, Colorado, to Charles and Ramsey (Barrack) McCabe on November 19, 1940. She was the third of their four cherished daughters. From a young age, Carol found joy in life's simple pleasures—making mud pies, admiring her mother’s piano melodies, and helping in the garden. She held a deep love and admiration for her parents, who shaped her warm, compassionate heart.

As a young woman, Carol welcomed her first child, Kirk Larsen. Her journey through life took a beautiful turn when she met Ralph Terry. The two fell deeply in love and married in their hometown of Trinidad. Together, they welcomed a daughter, Jolynn, completing their family. They later settled in La Junta, Colorado, where Ralph's work with the railroad took them.

Carol’s life was centered around her family. She poured her love into every role she embraced: a devoted mother, an extraordinary homemaker, a gifted cook, and an avid bowler and card player. Alongside Ralph, she forged enduring friendships that became an extension of their family.

Being a mother was Carol’s greatest joy, until she was blessed with grandchildren—Kiley and Kandra (Kirk), Jaclynn and Joanna (Jolynn and Eddie Spangler). Her love and pride for her grandchildren knew no bounds. Carol and Ralph traveled countless miles to watch their games and milestones, always their biggest cheerleaders. Her home became a haven for shared meals, laughter, and memories—a place her family will forever treasure.

Carol’s heart expanded even more when she became "Grammy Great" to her great-grandchildren: Jayden (Joanna), Madison and MaKenzie (Jaclynn), and Owen and Cody (Kandra and Brandon Becerra). She often marveled at the deep love she felt for this new generation, who brought boundless joy to her golden years and kept her spirit bright, even after Ralph’s passing in 2018.

A deeply faithful woman, Carol was a cornerstone of grace, kindness, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the countless lives she touched with her generosity and warmth.

Carol is now reunited with Ralph, her parents, her eldest two sisters, Donna and Eileen, and loved ones who have gone before her. She leaves behind a family forever grateful for her love: her youngest sister Marlene and husband Joe Navara, her son Kirk Larsen and wife Sue; her daughter Jolynn and husband Eddie Spangler; her grandchildren Kiley and wife Alexis, Kandra and husband Brandon, Jaclynn and partner Jared, and Joanna and partner Garrett; her great-grandchildren Jayden, Madison, MaKenzie, Owen, and Cody; and countless friends and extended family.

Though our hearts ache with her absence, we are comforted by the memories she leaves behind and the knowledge that her spirit will forever guide us. Carol will be deeply missed but never forgotten, a beacon of love whose light will shine in our hearts forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Carol's memory, honoring her generous and loving spirit.

Per family request, there are no services planned at this time.
