Rocky Ford Ward III Councilman Thomas Mullins Calls for Professionalism and Fairness Amid Concerns Over Council Issues

As Council Member for Ward III, I want to thank all the citizens who spoke last night, regardless of whether your comments were criticisms or compliments. I vow to acknowledge all feedback and strive for truth and fairness.

Regarding Council Member Nicole Roberts, I want to reiterate my closing thoughts. Nicole is a friend and an incredibly talented community member who is a force for good in our community. She plays an important role, and we would be greatly impacted if she were to cease her community engagement activities. However, I must address a concerning pattern of behavior. Councilwoman Nicole Roberts has frequently interrupted other council members and, at one point, made what I interpreted as a threat toward another council member. This behavior goes beyond fair debate and enters the realm of discounting, denying opportunities to speak, and intimidation of fellow members.

To those that I have let down by not addressing this issue in real time, I want to issue a sincere apology and a promise to be more proactive moving forward. My only defense is inexperience and, frankly, cowardice.

I respectfully ask that Councilwoman Nicole Roberts consider stepping back from her council duties, focusing on other areas of community organizing where she has made a significant impact.

Nicole, I consider you a friend, and your contributions to this community far outweigh my own. If I found myself in a similar situation, I would seriously consider stepping down to prevent further escalation. It is not just your reputation at stake, but that of the entire council, and this situation could impact our ability to make clear, unbiased decisions for the community’s benefit.

By stepping back now, you would provide an opportunity for the council to reflect on your many successes and the positive impact you’ve had on current and future projects, which I fully expect to continue thriving.

Thank you for your service.

Sincerely,

Thomas Mullins, Councilman Representing Ward III
