**UPDATE** I-25 Northbound Reopened
Fatality total rises
(PUEBLO, COLO) - The following is an update on the crash that happened on February 17, 2026, at 10:02 a.m.on I-25.
All lanes of Northbound I-25 were reopened around 11:39 p.m. on February 17, 2026.
One of the 29 individuals transported to a local hospital later succumbed to his injuries. The fatality total is updated to five.
The crash remains under investigation. We will provide updates when available.
Victim Status Update
(PUEBLO, COLO) - The following is an update of the crash this morning on I-25.
Of the four individuals who were killed in today’s crash, two were adult males from Walsenburg, CO, and two were adult females, one from Rye, CO, and one from Pueblo, CO.
Of the 29 parties transported to two area hospitals, seven sustained serious bodily injury, one is in critical condition, and the remaining 21 were treated for moderate to minor injuries.
The final vehicle count was 29 passenger vehicles and seven semis. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
The response involved a coordinated effort from multiple agencies, including the Pueblo Police Department, the Pueblo Sheriff’s Office, the Pueblo Fire Department, the Pueblo West Fire Department, the Beulah Fire Department, the West Park Fire Department, the Pueblo Rural Fire District, the Ft Carson Fire Services, the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services, and additional local and regional partners. We are grateful for the collaborative response and ongoing support.
**UPDATE** I-25 Southbound is Now Open
Crash still under investigation
(PUEBLO, COLO) - The crash investigation is continuing. The Colorado State Patrol is working to remove all the vehicles in the northbound lanes.
Results of the preliminary investigation show that the four fatalities and 29 injured parties all came from the northbound I-25, multi-vehicle crash. The southbound I-25 crash was property damage only. The total number of vehicles will be determined once all vehicles have been removed.
One of the vehicles in the northbound crash was a pickup hauling a gooseneck trailer containing goats. Four of the goats did not survive. Twenty-eight of the goats survived and have been safely removed from the scene.

Crash investigation remains ongoing
(PUEBLO, COLO) - The crash investigation from this morning continues. The southbound lanes of I-25 have been cleared and reopened.
The northbound lanes will remain closed for an extended period, with a detour in place from Exit 91 to Exit 94. If travel is necessary, avoid I-25 in this area, use caution, and reduce speed. Check COtrip.org for real-time updates on road status.
Correction on crash location: Preliminary reports from dispatch to responding emergency personnel indicated a crash on the northbound side of I-25. When the Colorado State Patrol arrived, they found an initial crash on the northbound side and a secondary crash on the southbound side of I-25. These two combined crash sites involved over 30 vehicles, including six semis.

(PUEBLO, COLO) - The following is an update of the crash that happened earlier this morning on I-25. There were heavy winds in the area at the time of the crash, blowing dirt, causing "brown out" conditions. There was low to no visibility for motorists.
Preliminary information
The crash investigation shows that there are over 30 vehicles involved, including six semis.
There are 29 people confirmed to be transported to the hospital. It is unknown their extent of injury.
There are 10 uninjured people who remain on scene.
There are four confirmed fatalities. The identity of the deceased will be identified by the Pueblo County Coroner after the next of kin has been identified.
The crash remains under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit. The final numbers will be updated after all vehicles have been cleared from the scene.

(PUEBLO, COLO) - On February 17, 2026, at approximately 10:02 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a multi-vehicle crash involving semis and passenger vehicles on southbound I-25 at milepost 92, just south of Pueblo Boulevard.
There is a preliminary estimate of at least 30 vehicles involved, including semis and passenger vehicles. Initial reports from troopers at the scene include four confirmed fatalities. In addition, there are reports of injuries. It is unknown at this time how many people are involved or the extent of the injuries.
Northbound I-25 is closed at milepost 93. Southbound I25 is closed at milepost 94. Due to low visibility, drivers are urged to delay traveling until conditions improve. If travel is necessary, avoid I-25 in this area, use caution, and reduce speed. Check COtrip.org for real-time updates on road status.
