Obituary

Jana Nicole (Nikki) Ekberg
Nikki came into this world on July 10th, 1970 to Richard Wade Davis and Janet Elaine (Williams) Davis in Bethune, Colorado. She left peacefully surrounded by family May 9th, 2026, in Burlington, Colorado and was surely greeted in Heaven by those who left before her, after a short battle with cancer (the family illness). When she was little, the family moved from Bethune to the farm south of Burlington and lived there until she graduated from Burlington High School in 1988.

She looked up to her big brother Trace and loved annoying him and his friends. She loved getting into trouble with her cousins Brenda and Theresa Williams as well as her childhood friend (sister) Jada Pautler. Trace also added spark to her life with his bride Kandy (Schultz) Davis, Nikki would talk about all the adventures she and these young women would have. She was your typical farm girl from Burlington. She was a talented pencil artist and took pride in her penmanship, creating Calligraphy simply because she could.

She loved her time as a Burlington High School Cheerleader and would recount many of those cherished memories in her adult life. As she became a young woman in this small town she fell in love, married and had a son Nathaniel. Through this union she would know hardship and heartbreak, which would drive her to make decisions that would define her as being the giving, big-hearted person she was.

In the early 90’s she would meet her soulmate Gerald (Gerry Ekberg). She loved this man with every fiber in her being and he loved her with his. Together these two would become a union like few have ever seen. Though they had their own things going through everything they were one. Gerry brought with him two more sons, Jon and Joshua Ekberg. Nikki loved both boys as if they were her own blood. Joshua would later add children and grandchildren to the clan. Nikki was thrilled to be a grandmother but was also way too young (according to her) to be called grandma she would often joke and say it felt like someone was saying “hey old lady."

Heartbreak was not done with Nikki though. In 2015 Nikki’s mother Janet passed away from the family illness. Nikki sat by her mother’s side with her sister-in-law Kandy and brother Trace. She found a comfort in her friend Melissa Villa who was a “godsend” with the time and care she took with Janet. Nikki’s father would follow and pass away in 2018 with Nikki, Trace and Kandy all being attentive to his needs. Through all this heartbreak Nikki learned the value of life spending it with the ones she loved. In 2020 Nikki helped greet her granddaughter Dixie into this world. Nikki absolutely loved this little girl and enjoyed spending as much time with her as she could. In 2021 Nikki gained three more grandchildren Madison, Ryan, and Jon. Nikki loved each of them and their personalities. Although she didn’t get to know them as deeply as she wished she could have.

It never failed whenever a holiday, birthday or just a thought occurred to her Nikki would always inquire about her grandchildren and would take interest in what they were doing with their lives. Nathaniel and Gerry decided to go on a cow venture in 2022 thinking they were going to make some extra money, well Nikki had other plans. Being the big-hearted animal lover that she was, Nikki immediately made them pets spoiling them with cake and the best hay and grain. She could often be seen out with the cows calling to them, getting them to follow her, and basically eat out of her hand. She adored animals probably from growing up on the farm with her pigs the favorite of all of them being “Grunt” a runt pig she raised from birth.

There are many more stories and life adventures that this amazing woman had. Too many to tell in a simple obituary. The main point is how deeply she loved all her friends and family and how we hope she knew she was deeply loved.

Nikki was proceeded in death by her grandfather Robert Williams, Grandfather Wade Davis, Grandmother Mabel Davis, Father Richard Davis, Mother Janet Davis, Sister Lisi Davis, Uncle Norman Crites, Uncle Troy Williams, Aunt Gail Williams, Aunt Peggy Witzel. Uncles Neal, Davis, Jimmy Davis, Gail Davis.

Left behind to wonder why, are her husband Gerald Ekberg, Son Nathaniel (Andrea) Ekberg, Paige Ekberg, Son Jon Ekberg, Son Joshua (Debbie) Ekberg, Grandchildren; Breanna, Lacey, Brandon, Madison, Ryan, John, Dixie, Grandmother Evelyn Williams, Brother Trace (Kandy) Davis, Nephew Tyson (Katherine) Davis, Great nieces Kiri and Karsyn Davis, Aunt Jackie (Steve) Klee, Uncle Pat (Barbra) Williams, Uncle Garold (Lou) Davis, Friends James and De De Stoltz, Sharon Walkinshaw, Chuck and Jada Pautler, Justin and Geana Franz, Steve Benson, Virgil and Kim George, Ray and Melissa Villa and many more.
