Highway 50 C Closed Due to a Crash
Extended closure
(PUEBLO COUNTY, COLO) - On June 2, 2026, at approximately 11:48 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a crash involving a semi and tanker trailer on eastbound Highway 50 C at milepost 13 (also known as “old Highway 50”), just west of Avondale.
The semi was eastbound on Highway 50 C, attempting to make a right turn onto a private residence, when the trailer’s tire dropped into a ditch and rolled onto its passenger side.
The semi was carrying liquid ammonia nitrate (fertilizer). The tank did not rupture, but the liquid ammonia nitrate leaked, requiring emergency responders to mitigate the spill.
The driver of the semi was not injured. There were no other occupants in the semi.
The Colorado State Patrol is leading the crash investigation with no cause determined at this time.
Both directions of Highway 50 C are closed between Olsen Road and Wheeler Road. Traffic is being diverted south of Highway C. Motorists are encouraged to choose alternate routes. Check COtrip.org for updates.
