Funeral services are currently pending for Las Animas, Colorado resident, Jordan Melendez.

Jordan Matthew Melendez passed away on June 3, 2026, in Las Animas, Colorado, at the age of 32. He was born on November 10, 1993, in La Junta, Colorado, to Luis and Tara (Martinez) Melendez.

Jordan was raised in Las Animas and graduated from Las Animas High School with the Class of 2012. Following graduation, he proudly enlisted in the Naval Reserves, demonstrating his commitment to serving his country. Throughout his life, Jordan dedicated himself to helping others through his work with the Colorado Department of Corrections, the Bent County Sheriff's Office as a jailer, and later as a paraprofessional at Las Animas High School.

A mentor and positive influence to many young people, Jordan also volunteered his time coaching middle school football and wrestling. He took great pride in encouraging and supporting the next generation of athletes.

Jordan had a creative spirit and a generous heart. He enjoyed expressing himself through art, spending time fishing, and cheering on his beloved Baltimore Ravens. Above all else, he cherished his role as a father and loved his son deeply. Jordan found genuine joy in helping others and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

As a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Jordan's faith remained an important part of his life. He will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, sense of humor, and the lasting impact he made on his family, friends, coworkers, students, and community.

Jordan's memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.

Jordan is survived by his son, Ezekiel Melendez; parents, Luis and Tara Melendez; brother, Jonathon Melendez all of Las Animas, Colorado; sister Angelica (James) Harrison of Arizona; nephews, James and Paul Harrison; paternal grandparents, Angel and Mary Melendez of Las Animas, Colorado; maternal grandparents, Elaine Martinez of Las Animas, Colorado and Archie Martinez of La Junta, Colorado; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Valley Funeral and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
