Colorado State Patrol Seeking the Public's Help

Two-vehicle serious bodily injury crash

(CANON CITY, COLO) - The Colorado State Patrol is seeking witnesses or dashcam footage of a serious bodily injury, two-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 50 at milepost 262, west of Canon City, CO, on June 15, 2026, at approximately 1:20 p.m.

Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of a white 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 began passing vehicles in a passing zone while traveling eastbound on Highway 50. The driver of the Silverado continued to pass several vehicles as the road changed to a no-passing zone, leading to a crash. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado struck a 2024 Jeep Wrangler traveling westbound head-on.

The 43-year-old male driver of the Jeep Wrangler was transported by ground ambulance to a local area hospital. A 50-year-old female passenger of the Jeep Wrangler was also taken to a local area hospital. Both the driver and passenger in the Jeep Wrangler have serious injuries.

The 18-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital with minor injuries.

The 18-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Vehicular Assault x 2

  • Reckless Driving

The Colorado State Patrol's Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation and is asking for information from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or any driving behavior of either vehicle before the incident. The Colorado State Patrol's Vehicular Crimes Unit is also requesting any dash camera footage that may have captured the vehicles' driving behavior before or at the time of the crash.
