Applewood Fire Burns Multiple Structures, Forces Evacuations Near Colorado City

Description: The Applewood Fire started near Mile Marker 73 on southbound I-25 and spread toward Applewood Estates, burning multiple structures and forcing evacuations. No injuries have been reported, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office.

Pueblo County Sheriff's Office Reports: "UPDATE: As of 8:40 p.m. Multiple structures have been burned, including several homes. No injuries reported."
"The fire, named the Applewood Fire, started 6:20 p.m. as a wildland fire near Mile Marker 73 on Interstate 25 southbound. Winds swept the fire west toward the Applewood Estates. No size of the fire has been determined yet."
"All residents of the mobile home park have been evacuated."
"Roads in and out of the Applewood Estates are closed. Hwy 165 and Interstate 25 are both open to traffic, however, motorists are urged to avoid the area to allow first responders to do their jobs."
"Multiple fire and law enforcement agencies are on scene and are expected to remain throughout the night."
"The cause of the fire is unknown at this time."

Community Animal Response Team (CART) has set up a shelter for large animals and livestock at the Colorado State Fairgrounds, enter at Gate 6 on Small Ave.

The Human Society of the Pikes Peak Region is operating a shelter for small pets at 1650 Cooper Place.

Applewood Mobile Home Park in Colorado City (Applewood Drive/Applewood Court) is being evacuated. An evacuation center is open at 1650 Cooper Place in Pueblo.
Multiple fire agencies are responding to a wildland fire south of Pueblo near Mile Marker 73-74 on Interstate 25.
More information will be released when it becomes available.
