Aspen Acre Fire Grows to Estimated 23,000 Acres as Extreme Winds Halt Air Support

UPDATE: As of 8:20 p.m. 

Last update on size of fire is 23,123 with 0% containment.

Several structures have been lost. No injuries have been reported.

Mandatory evacuations remain for the Town of Beulah, Town of Rye, San Isabel and other nearby areas.  Those in mandatory evacuations are ask to leave immediately. 

The evacuation center is open at the Pueblo County Parks & Recreation Building, 1650 Cooper Place. Small household pets will be accepted at the shelter.

The large animal/livestock shelter at the Colorado State Fair is still accepting animals. Please enter at Gate 7 on Small Ave.

UPDATE: As of 7:08 p.m. The Joint Information Center has closed for the evening. Updates will be posted on social media. Traffic control is assigned to the following Mile Points (MP) 10 on Fairview, MP 18 on Hwy CO 78, MP 32 on CO 165 on the Rye side. 

UPDATE: As of 6:45 PM, we are in need of donations for the animals affected by the fire. These include: bath towels and wet cat food please take these donations to the following Evacuation Center 1650 Cooper Pl, 81006.

UPDATE: As of 5:48 PM, there is an update to the McKenzie Junction closure point, road closure at CO 165 Mile Point Fairview to Mile Point 31.2 (Stanley Ave).

All official Aspen Acres Fire information will be updated through the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office and Joint Information Center. Any other information from uncredited and uninvolved agencies should be disregarded.

UPDATE AS OF 4:13 P.M.

If you are evacuating and have livestock you may park your RV's at the Colorado State Fairgrounds. Check-in will be required at Gate 7 off of Small Avenue.

UPDATE: As of 4:05 p.m. Press Briefing will take place at Craver Middle School at 4:45 p.m.

UPDATE: As of 1:00 p.m. Evacuation in place South of Lake Isabel to Rye, 2 mile evacuation area from San Isabel. Please continue to seek evacuation assistance through evacuation center in Pueblo County is set up at 1650 Cooper Place. 

A shelter has been Wetmore Community Center, 95 County Rd. 393. 

UPDATE: The Aspen Acres Fire is now estimated at 2,476 acres. Strong winds continue to persist in the area.

UPDATE: As of 11:30 a.m. If you are taking large animals/livestock to the Colorado State Fairgrounds for shelter, please enter at Gate 7 ONLY off of Small Ave.

As of 11:20 a.m. The large animal/livestock evacuation center is being re-located to the Colorado State Fairgrounds, enter at Gate 6 & 7 off Small Ave. The site at 4 Bar S will be closing.

As of 11:05 a.m. Media staging for the Aspen Acres Fire is at the SAR Building, 710 Rosita St., Westcliffe.

As of 10:10 a.m. -- Colo. 78 is closed at Mountain Shadows Mobile Estates, 8080 Colo. 78, for westbound traffic. No traffic will be allowed with the exception of First Responders will be allowed. 

REMINDER: A large animal shelter is set up at 4 Bar S, 6675 Colorado 78. 

As of 9:15 a.m. The Town of Beulah is on mandatory evacuation status. Please evacuate now. An shelter is set up at 1650 Cooper Place. 

As of 9:00 a.m. The Town of Beulah is now on pre-evacuation status due to the Aspen Acres Fire. 

The Pueblo County Emergency Operations Center has been activated in response to the fire. 

As of 8:25 a.m. Evacuations now in effect for residents along 12 Mile Rd. The evacuation center in Pueblo County is set up at 1650 Cooper Place. 

A shelter has been Wetmore Community Center, 95 County Rd. 393. 

As of 8:06 a.m. The Aspen Acres is estimated at 35 acres. There are strong, shifting winds in the area. No structures threatened at this time. 

As of 7:45 a.m. Evacuation area has been expanded. Anyone in the area of Lazy Acres and Bishops Castle on Hwy 165 must evacuate.

As of 7:25 a.m. - An evacuation site for large animals has been set up at 4 Bar S, 6675 Hwy 78 W. 

As of 7:20 a.m. - Hwy 165 is closed from the San Isabel Dam to MM 15 due to the Aspen Acres Fire.

An evacuation center has been set up and is open in Pueblo County at 1650 Cooper Place. Household pets are being accepted.

Several fire agencies are responding to a wildland fire near Aspen Acres in Custer County.

Residents from Aspen Acres along Hwy 165 to Old San Isabel Road are asked to evacuate.
