La Junta Honors Veteran Tom Pulido, Orders Flags to Half-Staff July 8–12

PROCLAMATION
CITY OF LA JUNTA, COLORADO

A PROCLAMATION HONORING THE LIFE AND SERVICE OF A DEPARTED VETERAN AND COMMUNITY MEMBER AND ORDERING THE FLAGS TO BE FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF

WHEREAS, the City of La Junta proudly honors the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States, recognizing their courage, sacrifice, and steadfast commitment to preserving the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans; and

WHEREAS, Tom Pulido honorably served in the United States Coast Guard as a search and rescue operative, answering the call to serve our nation with honor and distinction; and

WHEREAS, following military service, Mr. Pulido remained dedicated to the principles of patriotism, service, and community as a proud member of American Legion Post 9 in La Junta, continuing to support fellow veterans, promote American values, and strengthen our community through selfless service; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pulido dedicated many years to volunteering at various schools in La Junta, where he was known as “Mr. Tom,” assisting children in literacy, passing out summer meals, high fives, and endless smiles, while conveying a true spirit of support and positivity; and

WHEREAS, the City of La Junta joins the veteran community, the school district, family, friends, and fellow citizens in mourning the loss of Tom Pulido, while celebrating a life marked by duty, honor, and service to both country and community; and

WHEREAS, the lowering of the United States flag to half-staff is a solemn expression of respect and gratitude for those whose lives exemplified faithful service to our nation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that I, Joe Ayala, Mayor of the City of La Junta, do hereby direct that the United States flag and the State of Colorado flag displayed at all City-owned buildings and facilities be flown at half-staff on July 8 through sundown on July 12, 2026, in honor and memory of Tom Pulido.

BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED, that the citizens of La Junta are encouraged to remember the sacrifices of all veterans, honor the legacy of Mr. Pulido, and keep his family, fellow veterans, and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this time of remembrance.
