The Colorado State Patrol Released the Following Preliminary Crash Report

The Colorado State Patrol Public Information Officer Reported that state troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash at 8:45 PM on Aug. 6, 2026 on US Hwy 50 and Otero County Rd 31.

Vehicle Descriptions:

Vehicle One: Black GMC Acadia with three occupants, including: a 43 year-old female, a 20 year-old male and a juvenile from La Junta, Colorado.

Vehicle Two: Grey Ford Focus with one occupant, a 19 year-old female.

Crash Narrative:

Vehicle One, a Black GMC Acadia was crossing US Hwy 50 to Otero County Rd 31 and came into the same lane as Vehicle Two, a grey Ford Focus and the vehicles struck each other in a head-on collision. According to the CSP PIO, the 19 year-old female driver of the Vehicle Two was transported for medical treatment by helicopter. One party from Vehicle One had minor injuries and was transported for medical treatment. 

The Colorado State Patrol reported that the driver of the GMC Acadia was suspected of alcohol use, which may have been a factor in the crash. The crash is still under active investigation, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The La Junta Fire Department reported that US Hwy eastbound lanes were closed as one party required extrication from their vehicle and transport for medical treatment by helicopter.

All parties are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
