Trinidad Man Arrested for Child Porn and Weapons Charges

August 13, 2026 – CBI –  Trinidad, CO –The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has arrested a 37-year old Trinidad man this morning following a nearly year-long Internet Crimes Against Children investigation.

Gage Vidal Montoya faces 9 felony counts:

18-6-403 Sexual Exploitation of a Child - 4 counts (F5) 

18-6-403 Sexual Exploitation of a Child - 2 counts (F4)

18-12-102 Possession of a Dangerous Weapon - 3 counts (F5)

The CBI initiated the investigation in September of 2025 following a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

Montoya is employed as a Corrections Officer for the Colorado Department of Corrections. There is no evidence suggesting Montoya engaged in the alleged criminal misconduct at work.

CDOC’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) assisted the Colorado Bureau of Investigation with the arrest. Upon arrest, Gage Montoya was immediately placed on administrative leave.

“The Department takes allegations of misconduct seriously. An internal review will be conducted, and in accordance with State Personnel Rules, CDOC will take appropriate administrative action as necessary,” said CDOC Executive Director Andre Stancil. “As this remains an active criminal matter, questions regarding the criminal investigation and charges should be directed to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.”

All suspects are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty in a court of law.
