Amanda "Mandy" Torrez
Obituary
Amanda Kay (Branom) Torrez, affectionately known as Mandy, passed away surrounded by her family at her home in Hasty, Colorado, on August 10, 2026, at the age of 58.
Mandy was born on November 22, 1967, in Las Animas, Colorado, to William and Peggy (Ballard) Branom. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend whose presence brought love, laughter, and a little bit of discipline to everyone around her.
Mandy was an avid supporter of local and state athletics. She proudly followed the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Broncos, and Denver Nuggets, but her greatest loyalty was to the McClave Cardinals. She rarely missed a McClave Cardinal sporting event and could often be found in the stands cheering on the athletes. She also made a point of supporting her nieces’ and nephews’ recreational sports, always showing up to encourage the kids and their families.
Mandy enjoyed settling in with a good book, especially the works of Stephen King. She had a strong personality and a way of keeping everyone—both the little ones and the adults—in line. Her family affectionately knew this as “the look,” and Mandy could straighten things out without saying a word. It was one of the many things that made her uniquely Mandy and brought smiles to those who knew her best.
Above all, Mandy loved her family. She treasured the time spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her memory will live on through the many lives she touched.
Mandy is survived by her husband, James Torrez, of the family home; her children, Tyler (Leslie) Torrez and Jenna Torrez; grandchildren, Olivia, Zoey, and Kalleigh; her mother, Peggy Branom; sisters, Susan (Mark) Menz and Mary Ann (Jeff) Turner; brother, Troy (Brandy) Branom; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Branom.
A Celebration of Life for Mandy will be held at 2:22 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2026, at McClave Park with Pastor Dave Debus officiating. Guests are invited to bring their lawn chairs.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mandy’s memory to Lamar Area Hospice, in care of Valley Funeral & Cremation, P.O. Box 950, Lamar, Colorado.
Valley Funeral and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
