Trooper Involved in Crash in Mesa County
(MESA COUNTY, COLO) - On August 19, 2026, at approximately 11:21 a.m., a VCU Trooper was traveling northbound on 32 Road when he suffered a suspected medical episode. The patrol vehicle continued traveling northbound and rear-ended a vehicle traveling in front of it in the same lane. The patrol vehicle continued northbound, crossed the road, and left on the left-hand side, where it struck the edge of a culvert, causing the patrol vehicle to roll and come to rest on its roof.
The trooper was transported to a local area hospital by ground ambulance for serious injuries. The trooper remains hospitalized at this time but is expected to recover from his injuries.
The occupants of the other vehicle reported no injuries.
The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. The crash investigation is ongoing.
