Aspen Acres Fire Update – August 24, 2026

KEY MESSAGES
The Wyoming Team has covered a lot of ground and made significant progress on repair operations. However, there is still important work that needs to be completed in the area before crews can move forward and hand over the incident to a local team.
 
To support dynamic containment efforts, the team deployed a UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) to scan for residual heat along the containment edge, the UAS focused on the northern finger which is located on the west side of the incident. Hazard tree removal crews are working along the 78 Corridor over the next few days to improve safety in those areas.
 
We want to remind everyone that the Pike–San Isabel National Forest remains closed for both firefighter and public safety. Crews are actively working with heavy equipment to repair fire lines and extinguish remaining heat sources along existing containment areas.
 
CURRENT SITUATION
Crews continue repairing areas affected by suppression operations. Changing weather remains the biggest challenge crews face. Recent storms have produced rainfall across the burned area. Please stay aware of changing weather conditions and adhere to all flood warnings.
 
WEATHER
Today’s predictive weather services for the Aspen Acres Fire will bring another round of scattered to numerous rain showers and thunderstorms, with early afternoon development expected. Looking at winds, outside of thunderstorms, winds will remain light, less than 10 mph and no appreciable gusts, through this period of interest. The rest of the week is trending with a similar weather pattern. The morning will be dry until the afternoon, with thunderstorms beginning to form after 1 p.m. through 7 p.m. These thunderstorms can bring lightning, erratic outflow wind and localized rainfall. The fire area will have flash flood watches near drainages and lower areas.
